While I have some additional reviews to post, I thought I’d share some new buys which have been recently added to my TBR pile:
Banewreaker and Godslayer – Jacqueline Carey: I’ve only read Kushiel’s Dart of Carey’s other books, but these were recommended by The Literary Omnivore on her blog, and sounded interesting. I’ve just finished Banewreaker and really enjoyed it.
Pegasus – Robin McKinley: I love McKinley’s books; Aelia Reads and The Literary Omnivore (again) have reviewed and enjoyed, so I decided to get this in hardback (reduced price).
Atonement – Ian McEwan: I’ve never read any of McEwan’s novels, but saw the film adaptation recently, really enjoyed it, and so have decided to see what the book version is like.
Diplomatic Immunity – Lois McMaster Bujold: Having recently read the preceding Miles Vorkosigan books, Komarr and A Civil Campaign, I decided to get the next one in the series, and maybe go back and read the earlier titles at some other time.
The Black Jewels trilogy – Anne Bishop: I’d never heard of Anne Bishop or this book before, but it was in my Recommendations on Amazon, and the extract I tried was intriguing. I do wish it wasn’t quite so heavy – this will definitely be a read-at-home book, since it’s far too massive to carry around to read on the Underground!
I’m being particularly bad at non-fiction reading at the moment, and will try to go back to The Alexiad and On The Origin of Species soon to finish those.
Also, in other news, I’m hoping to get a Kindle for Christmas, so am hoarding titles which I can get for it to download later. All this delayed gratification isn’t good for me!

I liked Atonement much better than its film adaptation, which was still quite good–I hope you enjoy it.
The Black Jewels was recommended to me as well; it was the formative dark fantasy series for a friend of mine. Are you starting with Daughter of the Blood or The Invisible Ring?
Well, I’m looking forward to ‘Atonement’ – a few friends who’ve read the book and seen the film reckoned the film was better, which surprised me. Usually these things are the other way round.
The Black Jewels trilogy is all in one volume, so I’ll be starting with whichever is the first one… Are they meant to be read in a specific order?

I’ll be interested to hear what you think of Pegasus too. I’ve been waffling back and forth about whether I should read it now, or wait until the sequel comes out, so the cliffhanger won’t kill me.
I don’t usually mind if a book is the first of a series or a duology, but I do dislike not knowing at the start that it’s incomplete. I came to the end of Matthew Reilly’s Six Sacred Stones, for example, which ended on a massive cliff-hanger, only to find out that the sequel wasn’t yet available. That was very annoying! But then I’m quite spoiler-averse in general, so I don’t mind not knowing the ending before reading the beginning.
What an interesting list! Curious to see how you fare with the Bishop. I found the premise interesting, but the prose was a big let-down for me–amongst other things, Bishop has a tin ear for dialogue. There’s a fourth book out too btw.
Hmm. The extract I read on Amazon didn’t have much dialogue… We shall see!
I shall think about the fourth book when (if) I get through the first three!
